Low Cal Healthy White Sauce.
A Healthy White Sauce sounds like a bit of an oxymoron but through trial and error I have come up with this method for an easy White Sauce which you can consume without guilt.
This recipe serves 6.
Ingredients:
3 tablespoons whole wheat flour (ata)
1 cup water
2 cups milk
1 tablespoon butter
Pinch of nutmeg
Pinch of pepper powder
Salt to taste.
2- 3 tablespoons cream (optional)
1/2 cup cheese (optional)
Directions:
Blend 1 cup water with the flour in a pan with a hand whisk.
Simmer on low flame, add the milk and butter when it starts thickening, while whisking simultaneously.
Add the pepper , nutmeg and salt.
Add the cream if you want to make it richer. Add half cup grated cheese if the recipe calls for a cheesy white sauce.
This Low Cal Healthy White Sauce. can be spiced up with a little garlic, cracked red pepper, oregano, and basil and cheese if you want to use it as a Alfredo Sauce for pasta.
